10 Young Women of Distinction will be honored during a presentation at the National Council Session in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Any girl that has completed her Girl Scout Gold Award between October 1, 2006 and April 30, 2008. There is no limit on the number applications a council or Overseas Committee can submit to GSUSA.

Patriot's Pen, a youth-essay writing contest sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, is a nationwide competition that gives students in grades 6-8 the opportunity to write essays expressing their views on democracy. This year's theme is: Why America’s veterans should be honored. The first-place winner receives a $10,000 savings bond and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington D.C. The top national winners each receive a savings bond anywhere from $1,000 to $10,000.

USA Today. the United Nations , the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and other organizations and media leaders have joined forces to engage young adults (14-24) in contributing to the public dialogue on pressing social issues using the power of the Internet and user-generated content.
In its 4th year, FYI - Film Your Issue has grown into a global Internet-based competition that invites high school and college students in the United States and around the world to express themselves on pressing contemporary issues by creating and uploading short two-minute films on issues that impact them and their generation.
Beginning February 15, films can be uploaded to multiple participating platforms, including MTV, YouTube, and American Film Institute Screen Nation, as well as promoted on MySpace TV.
Awards and prizes include internships at USA Today, the United Nations, the award-winning PBS Series "P.O.V.", and the Humane Society of the United States; a $5,000 college scholarship from the Gates Foundation; having your film broadcast on Starz; having entries distributed by the Associated Press to its 1,800 Online Video Network media outlets; being profiled on MTV News and presented at the NAACP annual conference; VIP Pass/film presentation at AFI Silverdocs; the Walter Cronkite Civic Engagement Leadership Award and Eleanor Roosevelt Humanitarian Award; and many more.

Burton Snowboards and Girl Overboard author Justina Chen Headley, in partnership with Youth Venture, are co-sponsoring the Go Overboard Challenge Grant to find the best youth-led ideas to change the world. Youth, ages 16-20 are invited to commit to a cause they're already passionate about - whether it's saving the environment, ending world hunger, or protecting endangered species - and express how they, their club, their team, or their entire school will Go Overboard. The best ideas will win a Go Overboard Challenge Grant of up to $1,000. Ventures must be youth-created, community-benefiting, structured as a lasting organization, involve a strong team, and have a clear, attainable goal and budget.

Youth (ages 4-18) are eligible to submit their favorite photograph online and become eligible to win their share of $4,000 in prizes. Photographs will be judged based on: composition and arrangement, brilliant color, focus and sharpness, and creativity and emotion. Five winners will be awarded this year. Winners will receive an Olympus 8.0 megapixel digital camera, Tool Factory Software, and a Digital Camera Basics Book.
The Hitachi Foundation presents the Yoshiyama Award for Exemplary Service to the Community each year to ten high school seniors from around the U.S. on the basis of their community service activities. Activities must foster longer-term community change and be focused in socially and/or economically isolated communities. The award is accompanied by a cash prize of $5,000 dispensed over two years. Recipients may use the award at their discretion. Recipients may use the award at their discretion. The award is not a scholarship. One grand prize winner and ten (10) finalists will have their living green projects published and win Cool Beacon Street Girls Prizes! Many will enter; few will win.
The winner and her project will be the guests of Sally Ride Science at their local Sally Ride Science Festival; the project will be published on the Beacon Street Girls website and the Sally Ride Science website and the winner will receive Super-cool Beacon Street Girls Prizes. The winner and winner’s school will also receive an assortment of Sally Ride Science books.
Science projects from the grand prize winner and ten (10) finalists will appear on the Beacon Street Girls and Sally Ride Science websites. Runners-up will also receive special Beacon Street Girls and Sally Ride Science gifts.
